The Mach 1 is the target that made disc golf a sport. Ed Headrick's original Disc Pole Hole, first installed in the mid 1970s, replaced trees and posts with hanging chains over a basket, and every target built since is a descendant of this design. DGA still makes it with eighteen chains and a heavy welded lower basket meant to live outdoors for decades. Courses that want a piece of history with pro grade durability still install the Mach 1 today.
